Hōjō Tsunashige

A military officer who rose to prominence as the military core of the Hōjō from the time of the clan's early leadership. At the Battle of Kawagoe in 1546, he defended the besieged Kawagoe Castle and, working with the relieving forces led by Ujiyasu, is said to have defeated the Uesugi-Ashikaga allied army. He later held Kawagoe and Tamanawa, exemplifying the function of the branch castle network connecting the main castle to the front lines.
