蜂須賀正勝

Serving Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he became lord of Tatsuta Castle following the pacification of Harima Province and was involved in castle reconstruction. In the Shikoku pacification of Tenshō 13, Hideyoshi intended to grant Masakatsu the entire province of Awa (approximately 175,600 koku) in recognition of his long years of service, but Masakatsu declined, preferring to remain as one of Hideyoshi's inner circle on account of his advanced age. Instead, his eldest son Iemasa received Awa Province in Tenshō 13 and began the construction of Tokushima Castle. Masakatsu died in Tenshō 14. However, he is sometimes depicted in later accounts as a bandit chief, whereas a portrait in the Tokushima City Museum collection shows a different image.
