Iwami silver mine

Silver mine
Iwami Province
From 1526

In 1526, Hakata merchant Ōya Jotei began development; adoption of cupellation in 1533 increased silver output. After the Ōuchi and Amago clans competed for control, the Mōri gained it in 1562, and it became directly administered by the Tokugawa after Sekigahara.

Points of debate

Development dates vary within Ōta City records (1526 or 1527); the 1526 date is based on the later-composed 'Ginzan Kiji.'
