INTERACTIVE BATTLE
Tenshō 8 · Oyama Gobo, Kaga Province (now Kanazawa Castle Park, Kanazawa, Ishikawa)
After Nobunaga's peace with the Ishiyama Hongan-ji, Sakuma Morimasa, serving under Shibata Katsuie, took Oyama Gobo, the headquarters of the Kaga Ikkō-ikki. The fall of its nearly century-old center brought Kaga under effective Oda control.
The Kaga Ikkō-ikki had effectively ruled Kaga Province since the Bunmei era (1470s). Oyama Gobo (Kanazawa Gobo) was founded in 1546 as a Hongan-ji stronghold and served as the ikki's center ever since. When Nobunaga made peace with the Ishiyama Hongan-ji in 1580, the Kaga ikki lost its backing and became a target for the Oda's Hokuriku army.
The Oda Hokuriku army took and destroyed Oyama Gobo. Sakuma Morimasa then built a castle on the site and became its first lord as Kanazawa Castle. Resistance continued, however, among the Yamanouchi-sōshō in the Hakusan foothills at Torigoe and Futokoro castles.

The loss of the Kaga ikki's political center brought the province under effective Oda control. Maeda Toshiie would later rule this land, but he did not receive Kaga until 1583, after the Battle of Shizugatake; at this point he was still lord of Fuchū in Echizen.
