Warrior of Settsu Province

中川清秀

birth year unknown – 1583

As a local warrior of Settsu Province serving under Araki Murashige's command, he held Ibaraki Castle. On November 24, Tenshō 6, when Murashige defected from Oda Nobunaga, Kiyohide switched allegiance to Nobunaga. Serving Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he took action on Hideyoshi's behalf at the Battles of Yamazaki and Shizugatake. Through the Settsu administrative reorganization in Tenshō 13, he was transferred to Miki in Harima Province. At the Battle of Shizugatake in Tenshō 11, he defended the Ōiwayama fortification and died in combat when Sakuma Morimasa, leading Shibata's vanguard, launched a sudden attack. The following year, his eldest son Hideyoshi inherited the family headship and continued the administration of the Ibaraki Castle region.
