Senior Oda retainer: Ishiyama War

Senior retainer to Oda Nobunaga responsible for the Ishiyama Honganji War beginning in 1570 and military operations in the Kinai. The Ishiyama War was not the siege of a single castle but a prolonged conflict in which naval supply, castles in Izumi, Kawachi, and Settsu, followers and regional lords, and the Mōri naval forces were interconnected; his role was to connect Nobunaga's military operations to regional powers in the Kinai and maintain the siege. In 1580, he was expelled by Nobunaga along with his son; he later moved to Mount Kōya. The 'Nineteen Articles' known as his expulsion order is an important document, but its authorship, transmission, and the verification of individual articles require collation; a conclusion of incompetence and negligence cannot be drawn from the text alone.

Battle of Okehazama
Oda fort garrison and forward troopsOda Nobunaga attacked Imagawa Yoshimoto's main force around Okehazama and Dengakuhazama during Yoshimoto's invasion of Owari, and Yoshimoto was killed. The battle formed part of a wider struggle over Narumi and Odaka castles and the Oda forts that blockaded them.

Battle of Anegawa
Oda commanderBetrayed by Azai Nagamasa at Kanegasaki, Oda Nobunaga marched into Omi with Tokugawa Ieyasu and met the Azai and Asakura at the Anegawa. The Oda and Tokugawa won the day but did not destroy the Azai.

Battle of Mikatagahara
Oda relief forceMarching west, Takeda Shingen entered Totomi and passed by Hamamatsu castle without attacking it. Drawn out, Tokugawa Ieyasu was caught on the Mikatagahara plateau and suffered one of the heaviest defeats of his life.
