Hōjō Ujiteru

A son of Hōjō Ujiyasu and brother of Ujimasa. He succeeded to leadership of the powerful Ōishi family of western Musashi, expanded Takiyama Castle, and undertook defense of the border facing the Takeda of Kai. Takiyama Castle was attacked during Takeda Shingen's 1569 invasion. During the Tenshō era, he relocated his base to the more defensible Hachiōji Castle (with 1584–87 being the leading theory), and the development of its castle town and market were inherited by the Hachiōji inn station of the Edo period. In 1590, while he himself was garrisoned in Odawara Castle, Hachiōji Castle fell on June 23 to Maeda Toshiie and Uesugi Kagekatsu. After the opening of the castle, he was ordered to commit suicide along with his brother Ujimasa.
