Hōjō Ujinori

A son of Hōjō Ujiyasu and brother of Ujimasa. After serving at Misaki Castle, he was stationed at Nirayama, and with administrators such as the Shimizu family, he undertook defense and governance of western Izu. His position at Nirayama was not a fixed 'castle lord' but rather changed stepwise from a dual-administrator system to one centered on his family. He also handled diplomatic relations with Tokugawa Ieyasu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi; in 1588 he went to Kyoto and had an audience with Hideyoshi, expressing the Hōjō's submission. After the fall of Odawara in 1590, he followed his nephew Ujinao to Mount Kōya, and later received a fief in Sayama, Kawachi, continuing his line through his son to the Sayama Hōjō clan.
