Province data
In the early Sengoku period, Echū was divided among the Hatakeyama, Jinbō, Shiina clans, and the Ikkō-ikki movement. Uesugi Kenshin made peace with the Ikkō-ikki and brought most of the province under his control by 1576. After Kenshin's death, the Oda forces advanced into the region and controlled most of it by 1582. Following the Honnō-ji Incident, Sassa Narimasa ruled the province but surrendered to Hashiba Hideyoshi in 1585. Subsequently, the Maeda clan expanded their control and maintained their rule through the Battle of Sekigahara under the Tokugawa regime.
