1489: The Death of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshihisa in Camp - Sengoku Shogun Map
The 9th shogun Ashikaga Yoshihisa, who had campaigned against the Ōmi steward Rokkaku Takayori and camped for a year and a half at Magari (in modern Ritto, Shiga), died in the field at age 25. His sudden death halted the punitive campaign, allowing the Rokkaku to temporarily recover, and left the shogunate in disarray with his father Yoshimasa forced to handle affairs in his absence.
