1536: The Tenbun Hokke Disturbance—Kyoto's Hokke Temples Burn - Sengoku Shogun Map

Enryaku-ji on Mount Hiei, the Rokkaku of southern Ōmi, and their allies burned Kyoto's twenty-one Hokke head temples. Shimogyō, where many Hokke followers lived, was destroyed and about one-third of Kamigyō burned; the wartime damage is said to have exceeded that of the Ōnin-Bunmei War.
