1574: The Annihilation of the Nagashima Ikkō-ikki
Oda Nobunaga surrounded Nagashima in Ise with roughly 80,000 troops, and in September burned the fortified holdouts, annihilating some 20,000 remaining Ikkō-ikki fighters. This ended nearly five years of resistance that had repeatedly threatened Nobunaga, closing off one major front of the anti-Nobunaga coalition. Meanwhile in the east, Takeda Katsuyori captured the strategic Takatenjin Castle in Tōtōmi, keeping up pressure on the Oda-Tokugawa alliance.

In his third campaign against Nagashima, Oda Nobunaga surrounded the uprising by land and sea and suppressed the Ikkō-ikki centered on Ganshōji.
After the fall of the Azai, Hashiba Hideyoshi renamed Imahama as Nagahama and began developing a castle and town on Lake Biwa. It became a governing base linking lake transport with the Hokkokukaidō road.
