October 1600 · Hasedo Castle, Dewa Province
An Uesugi army under Naoe Kanetsugu invaded Mogami territory but failed to take Hasedo Castle and withdrew after news of Sekigahara.
After the Aizu expedition turned west, the Uesugi attacked Mogami territory amid both the national conflict and a long regional struggle over Shonai.
Hasedo held out. After learning of the Western defeat at Sekigahara, the Uesugi withdrew to Okitama. The Uesugi were later reduced to Yonezawa and the Mogami enlarged.
