Ashikaga Yoshitane

Ashikaga Yoshiki (later Yoshitane) received the shogunal appointment as the tenth shogun and began governing with support from his father Yoshimi.

Tenth shogun Ashikaga Yoshiki sent forces into Ōmi and took the field himself to begin a second campaign against Rokkaku Takayori.

During the second campaign against the Rokkaku, shogunal and Rokkaku forces fought at Yanase-gawara in the largest engagement of the two campaigns.

Ōuchi Yoshioki escorted the exiled former shogun Ashikaga Yoshitada, later known as Yoshitane, into Kyoto with support from Hosokawa Takakuni and others. Yoshitada returned to shogunal government under a political order backed by Yoshioki and Takakuni.

Hosokawa Takakuni and Ōuchi Yoshioki's forces defeated Hosokawa Sumimoto's side at Funaokayama on the twenty-fourth day of the eighth month. Shogun Ashikaga Yoshitada returned to Kyoto on the first day of the ninth month and restored his government.

Former shogun Ashikaga Yoshizumi died at Mizukuki Okayama Castle in Ōmi on the fourteenth day of the eighth month. He had been backed by Hosokawa Sumimoto's faction against shogun Ashikaga Yoshitada.

Shogun Ashikaga Yoshitada changed his name to Yoshitane in November, marking the name under which he subsequently conducted shogunal government.
